On Thursday, March 15, the Museum presented its Honor Award to the Urban Land Institute (ULI) in celebration of ULI’s past and in anticipation of its future. For 75 years, ULI has served as the premier forum for leaders in urban planning, land use, and real estate development worldwide, providing resources to, educating and equipping its nearly 30,000 members who shape our built environment on a daily basis. As it embarks on its next 75 years with the “What’s Next?” initiative, ULI will lead the critical discussion of the serious challenges and exciting opportunities before us in a rapidly urbanizing world.

More than 600 guests attended the event in the Museum's historic Great Hall, including business leaders in construction, architecture, development, and engineering. Other attendees included distinguished officials from the U.S. General Services Administration; the government of the District of Columbia, including Mayor Vincent Gray; the National Endowment for the Arts; the Commission of Fine Arts; the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, and Treasury; and committee staff from the United States Senate. Steve Case, chairman and CEO of Revolution, LLC and co-founder of America Online, kicked off the evening with a keynote speech about the future of technology in the real estate field. The event also included a tribute speech via video from President William J. Clinton, who praised ULI for its guidance and wisdom in city planning and land use issues around the world.

Peter S. Rummell, chairman, ULI, and Patrick L. Phillips, chief executive officer, ULI, accepted the award from Michael J. Glosserman, chair of the Museum's board of trustees, and Chase W. Rynd, president and executive director.
